This Is What The St. Jude Radiothon Meant For Us

Scroll down to read messages from the KMPS staff…

Over the past two days, so many of you called to become Partners In Hope with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital! We had so much fun with our volunteers, the St. Jude staff, and our partners from Rairdon’s Kirkland RAM/Jeep headquarters during our 48 hour radiothon with St. Jude — but at the end of the day, even we were surprised with how incredibly touched we felt by the outpouring of support from those jumping at the opportunity to partner with St. Jude to end childhood cancer.

Some callers signed up or donated in memory of family members and friends who lost their lives to childhood cancer. Others, like Jayme Woods from Federal Way and Carla Woodworth from Woodinville, responded to a 12th Man challenge from St. Jude patient Kiara (a 6-year-old Seahawks fan who couldn’t walk for months after her surgery for a brain tumor, and with the help of St. Jude took her very first step Friday). Some donors far surpassed our own expectations — like Paige Phillips from Spanaway, who donated $1000, and Chris from Rairdon’s Kirkland RAM/Jeep headquarters, who matched donations from 13 St. Jude Partners in Hope. Still others became partners when Jeff Brauns, who lost his son Brandon to childhood cancer, gracefully joined us to share his powerful story. Brandon passed a week after his 11th birthday — but it was the developments in cancer research and care from St. Jude that gave him more time.

“We can take all of these percentages that are really great — you know, we’re curing 4 out of 5 — but we’ve got to get to 100,” said Program Director Kenny Jay. “Brandon got more time because of St. Jude, we want more kids… to have the rest of their lives because of St. Jude.”st jude group 3 brightened1 This Is What The St. Jude Radiothon Meant For Us

From the dedicated volunteers who gave 12 hours over two days to answer your calls, to the incredibly supportive and knowledgeable St. Jude staff who worked with us ALL DAY, we can’t thank you enough! If you missed out on the radiothon but still want to support St. Jude in their fight to end childhood cancer, you can donate or sign up to be a partner in hope here.

A Special Message From The KMPS Team: ‘What This Radiothon, And Your Help, Meant To Us’

Kat: “Thank you” just doesn’t seem like enough because I am extremely humbled by every single person, family, business, school, and more who called to become a Partner In Hope. St. Jude is something very near and dear to all of us at KMPS because we’ve all seen cancer affect lives around us. After visiting St. Jude, my world was completely changed. I learned so much, but more than anything, I FELT and SAW the work being done. St. Jude really is like no other place I’ve ever been too. With every doctor, nurse, family and child, there is HOPE because of the incredible work being done and shared around the world to save lives. I saw that same hope these past two days with my fellow 941Team, the incredible volunteers, and the amazing St. Jude staff. We have that HOPE because of YOU, your calls, your donations, your messages, your support. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for joining us & helping achieve such and incredible goal. The fight to find cures and save lives doesn’t stop here, I am even more motivated to TOP this for the next 94.1 KMPS Country Cares for Kids St. Jude Radiothon!

Seth: Becoming a father changed my whole perspective on the KMPS St. Jude Radiothon.  I always knew how important it was to raise money for this wonderful organization. Having a young one of my own makes me even more sympathetic to what St. Jude families go through.  Thank you for giving generously and becoming an extended part of the St. Jude and KMPS family!st jude group 1 This Is What The St. Jude Radiothon Meant For Us

David Dean: I loved being a part of my first radiothon at KMPS! It was incredible to hear the volunteers stories and meet all the new people. I also loved becoming a partner in hope live on the radio! It was super fun because the operator didn’t realize I was in the room until halfway through and then she called me a “stinker!” =)

DeAnna Lee: I’m humbled and honored to have been a part of our 941 KMPS Country Cares for Kids Radiothon. Thank you for your generosity in becoming a Partner In Hope and helping save so many children’s lives. May the spirit of hope fill your heart this holiday season knowing you’ve made a difference in the lives of St. Jude’s kids!

Kenny Jay: I’m proud of how this cause brings so many people together … I love that so many of us are able to give on behalf of our healthy kids and that we’re able to show Portland that Seattle is better!

Editor’s note: For our listeners who missed our challenge with 98.7 The Bull in Portland… yeah, beat ’em. Twice 😉
