The U.S. upped its medal count to 69 over the weekend, including 26 gold. We also have 21 silver and 22 bronze, so we not only lead the overall count, we also have more of each medal than any other country.
American swimmer Ryan Lochte is one of a handful of swimmers robbed at gunpoint in Rio. Lochte tells NBC he was one of four swimmers who were held up at gunpoint in a taxi while leaving a birthday celebration at a Brazilian night club early yesterday morning. No one was harmed by the suspects, who were posing as police officers. The U.S. Olympic Committee also confirmed the incident. The International Olympic Committee initially denied the incident took place. The 32-year-old won gold in the four-by-200-meter freestyle last week, and has won 12 career Olympic medals.
Dan & Shay’s Shay Mooney is engaged. He shared the news with fans on Instagram last Friday. Mooney’s wife-to-be is Hannah Billingsley who was Miss Arkansas USA in 2013.
Adele admitted during her show in Los Angeles on Saturday that she turned down an offer to play the Super Bowl halftime show next February. “I’m not doing the Super Bowl,” she told the crowd. She added, “I can’t dance or anything like that. So they were very kind. They did ask me, but I did say no. I’m sorry.”
One Michael Phelps admirer was such a fan of the record-breaking Olympian that he had Phelps’ death stare at South African rival Chad Le Clos immortalized on his calf.As for why he would want a permanent scowl on his leg, even if it is from the most medaled Olympian, the tattoo artist said “Because he’s first and foremost a big Phelps fan, but also because of [Phelps’] work ethic and perseverance. When we chose the image, we had a bit of a laugh about it, but he told me that he wanted it because it showed his moment of focus before the race.”
