Trace Adkins‘ battle with alcoholism took another bad turn last week when he supposedly showed up drunk at a concert benefit for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
According to several reports, he was slurring his words, couldn’t finish his set, and even stumbled off the stage.
Some fans were leaving the show early, and especially upset because there were a lot of kids in the crowd.
Several people posted videos to social media the following day showing Adkins slumped on a stool, mumbling the lyrics to his songs into the microphone as his band played.
There’s been no public statement from Trace, or his people, but he did donate his performance fee back to the charity, which he has long been a supporter of.
The singer has battled alcohol addiction in the past. He last completed a rehab program in 2014 after an incident where he headlined a country cruise and reportedly got into an argument with a Trace Adkins impersonator who was singing karaoke in a bar on the ship.
A source close to Adkins told PEOPLE, “This illness is an everyday fight. Trace is a fighter and everyone is pulling for him.”
