Kip Moore has had great success with “I’m to Blame” and “Running for You” from his latest album Wild Ones. But when he was making the record he was battling a severe bout of depression.

“I’ve said it during shows, that I literally had a hard fight with depression while making this record,” he said in a new interview with ET Canada. “It was a tough time in my life. There were a lot of days when it was hard for me to get out of bed. I can’t quite explain it to people who don’t go through it. It’s something I’m just now crawling out of.”
Last week, Moore was in the news for busting a texter at one of his shows. As applause-worthy as the move seemed at the time, he country singer shrugged off the stream of reports about the incident.
“I think the whole damn thing has been so overblown,” he said. “I joke with people all the time who are texting at shows. And I understand what blogs and stations will do – they’ll put a pose to stir the controversy because they know people won’t watch the video. But it was all in good fun. I take people’s phones and I’ll call who they were texting and say ‘can you hold on a damn minute, I’m doing a show?’ just to have fun with them.”
Moore is currently out on the road with Miranda Lambert on her Keeper of the Flame Tour, which runs through September 16 in Austin, Texas.
