Following the release of her sophomore album Big Day in a Small Town last week, Brandy Clark stopped by Late Night With Seth Meyers to perform “Girl Next Door.”
After growing up in Morton, WA, where the population barely tops a thousand, it’s the very kind of place that inspired her new album, Big Day in a Small Town, where kids ride their bikes to the store alone and private lives are public gossip.
From Late Night to Daytime, Brandy then took “Girl Next Door” to Live with Kelly.
The initial idea for the phrase, Big Day in a Small Town — which also belongs to a track on the album — actually came from something Clark saw on Facebook. A friend of Clark’s had moved from Nashville to Oklahoma for a teaching job, and posted a status update that caught her eye. “She wrote, ‘I washed my hair and went to town twice, now that’s a big day in a small town.’ And I was like, ‘Man, I so get that.'”
