First of all, we just have to say we LOVE Lauren Alaina! Everything about her – talent, personality, music, style, passion…we could keep going but you get the point. (Plus, she WON the Chubby Bunny Marshmallow Challenge at 8 Man Jam…even though she hates marshmallows!)
And we love her even more for being REAL. It takes someone incredibly strong to talk about their personal battles.
Lauren Alaina came forward to talk about the struggles of living in the public eye and the pressure to be perfect.
Alaina did a Facebook Live interview earlier this week, and admitted that she struggled with an eating disorder. It happened right after she was the runner-up on the 10th season of “American Idol”.
She said, “I had bulimia for a few years, and I was really sick, and I had to get some help. I understand now that I just desperately wanted to be thin. That’s all I thought…I was obsessed with it.”
The irony is that everything was going her way. She was still in her teens, and was following her dream. Quote, “Everything I had wanted I was getting, but I was obsessed with this other thing that was making me unhappy.”
She said her mom helped her work through it by making her stand in front of the mirror and say three things that she loved about herself. Quote, “It really helped me, although at first, I literally couldn’t name anything. It was so sad.”
She’s in a good place now, and wrote a bunch of music for her next album that she hopes will inspire girls who are dealing with the same issues.
She said, “I want people to learn to love who they are. Because that’s the hardest thing in life, being able to see yourself the way other people see you.”
For what it’s worth, Lauren- you are & have always been absolutely stunning! Thank you for speaking up about something so many people struggle with, but are afraid to talk about. We love you and can’t wait to hear your new album!
