By Robyn Collins

Rising country music star Cole Swindell’s sophomore album, You Should Be Here,  is coming out today (May 6).

If the first single is any indicator, fans are in for a real treat with this follow up to his platinum certified self-titled debut.  The new twelve-song collection was also produced by songwriter and fellow musician Michael Carter.

The title track, “You Should Be Here”, was written by Swindell and hit writer Ashley Gorley. As Swindell told Radio.com last year, “‘You Should Be Here,’ [is] a song I wrote last year when I was on tour, I wrote it outside of a football stadium, believe it or not. I lost my dad two years ago in a freak accident, and when Ashley Gorley, one of my favorite writers, brought up this title, he had to have known that’s what I wanted to write.”

“I thought about my dad,” he said. “Just all the things that I get to do. It ain’t even for the folks that maybe haven’t lost somebody, maybe you just miss somebody. Maybe you have family in another state, or there’s those moments in life that we all get to share, and it’s like if that one person was here, man, they’d freak out, they would love it.”

The song has already spent multiple weeks at #1. This is the 5th consecutive #1 single for the singer, following  “Let Me See Ya Girl,” “Hope You Get Lonely Tonight,” “Ain’t Worth the Whiskey” and “Chillin’ It.”

Swindell can also take credit for some hits that you didn’t know were his. He has co-written eight of the biggest No. 1 songs in country music for some of country’s hottest stars, including his five chart-toppers as well as Luke Bryan’s “Rollercoaster,” Florida Georgia Line’s “This Is How We Roll” and Thomas Rhett’s “Get Me Some of That.”

Cole Swindell hits the road for a cross-country tour on May 7.
