Raising money with racing pigs: Maris Farms, KMPS and several sponsors join forces to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital!

In the spirit of horse racing’s famous Triple Crown series, Maris Farms will again hold its Triple “Pig” Crown racing series – now in its fifth year. The pig races are one of the featured activities at Maris Farms, which has become one of Pierce County’s favorite family fall destinations for its pumpkins, corn maze and haunted woods.

In addition to the normal weekend races which start Saturday, Sept. 29th, there will again be the three marquee races – The PIGtucky Derby (Oct.7th, 2 pm), The BOARmont Stakes (Oct. 14th, 2 pm) and The SQUEAKness (Oct. 21st, 2 pm). Last season’s series winner, Jimmy FalLOIN – who captured the PIGtucky Derby and The SQUEAKness – will look to defend his series title. BOARmont Stakes winner Arnold SchwartzenHOGGER returns as well.

The big hog to keep your eye on is #94.1 The Big JohnsonsVille! Named after our very own Johnson & Johnson morning show!

On a small round track near the animal barn, several races will occur during the course of a weekend day. Prior to each racing session (3 races per session, 3 sessions per day), racing fans can make donations of $1 (1 ticket), $5 (6 tickets) or $10 (15 tickets) and pick a pig they feel will win that race.
After someone donates, they will receive a numbered raffle ticket – they will keep half and put the other half in the slot of their “chosen” winner. At the end of the race, the announcer will draw a name from the “winning” pig’s slot, and that individual will win a prize from one of our sponsors. ALL DONATORS will earn a special “pignostication” pig nose for their contribution. ALL DONATIONS will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The unprecedented racing series has raised over $15,000 for St. Jude’s during its four-year run. In addition to the title sponsors – Anytime Fitness, Papa John’s Pizza and Wal-Mart – several other sponsors are contributing cash and/or prizes to this event, including Smith Brothers Dairy, Sweet Kettle Corn and American Thunder Monster Truck.
