Stage Collapses At Sugarland Show In Indiana, 5 Reported Dead
A strong gust of wind pushed over and collapsed a grandstand stage at the Indiana State Fair prior to a [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Sugarland[/lastfm] concert on Saturday night (08/13/11) killing five people, according to the Associated Press.
The fair estimate at least 40 people are injured. The National Weather Service estimated winds between 60 and 70 mph.
[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Sara Bareilles[/lastfm] had finished her opening set when the wind knocked down the rigging on to the stage. “I’m speechless and feel so helpless,” Bareilles said on her Twitter page. “My heart aches for the lives lost.”
After the collapse Sugarland Tweeted: “We are all right. We are praying for our fans, and the people of Indianapolis. We hope you’ll join us. They need your strength.”
Sugarland and Sara Bareilles have cancelled their show tonight at the Iowa State Fair.
